Natural death
The file commonly includes medical records, the treating-doctor certificate and evidence establishing the cause of death.
For nominees
You do not need to know insurance language. A MITRA claim expert gathers the right records, submits the claim and stays accountable until the insurer decides.

Start here
The registered nominee or legal claimant does not need to arrive with a complete file. Begin with the policy details and the basic facts. The exact document list can then be built around the circumstances of the death.
Follow this claim in the MITRA app. Once your expert files it, every step - pre-authorisation, the insurer's queries, settlement - updates live, and your expert is one tap away.
Step by step
We confirm the policy and give you one calm, specific checklist.
The insurer is informed and the claim reference is created.
Claim form, death certificate, KYC, bank proof and relevant medical or police records.
Your expert coordinates every request and makes sure nothing goes unanswered.
The insurer's outcome is explained and escalated if there are valid grounds.
Different circumstances
The file commonly includes medical records, the treating-doctor certificate and evidence establishing the cause of death.
Police, post-mortem, accident and final investigation records may be required in addition to the base claim file.
Local civil records, certified translations, consular documents and repatriation evidence may be relevant.
Legal-heir, succession, assignment or title records may be needed before the insurer can discharge the claim.

How claims are assessed
A death within the policy's initial years can trigger closer review of the original application, medical history and circumstances. That is not an automatic rejection. Complete disclosure at purchase and a coherent document trail are the strongest protection.
| Situation | Additional records often needed |
|---|---|
| Natural death | Medical records, treating-doctor certificate, cause of death |
| Accidental death | FIR, post-mortem, police and accident records |
| Death overseas | Local death record, consular or repatriation documents, certified translations |
| No nominee | Legal-heir or succession documentation |
| Early policy claim | Application verification, prior medical and income records |
The application record
Section 45 of the Insurance Act limits when a life policy can be called into question after the statutory period, subject to the law and facts. It does not make inaccurate disclosure good practice. A complete proposal remains the safest foundation for the nominee.

Questions
Straight answers, in plain English.
Usually the registered nominee. If there is no valid nominee, legal heirs or an assignee may need succession or title documents before settlement.
It depends on whether the file is complete and whether investigation is required. The insurer follows applicable regulatory timelines; your expert tracks each query and deadline.
Tell the insurer. A declaration, indemnity or other replacement process may be accepted depending on policy and insurer requirements.
It can require additional accident documents even when the base death claim is registered together. MITRA coordinates both benefit assessments.
Yes - consultations and claims support are free for you. Like all insurance intermediaries, we earn a standard commission from insurers when a policy is issued. Our advisors are measured on fit and claim outcomes, not sales targets.
A dedicated claim expert prepares and verifies your documents, coordinates with the hospital, insurer or TPA, resolves queries, and explains the final settlement in plain language. It is included for policies bought or ported through MITRA.
No intermediary can decide or guarantee a claim outcome. The insurer decides based on policy wording and the facts of the claim. MITRA makes sure your file is complete, follows up, contests unsupported deductions and escalates when valid grounds exist.
